I am on a new painting at the moment, where I try to combine metalwork with painting. You can see the progress of it at my painting blog

Here is the video with the music that inspired me to the painting, and the picture of the state of work at the moment:

new necklace
video of pendant with music on youtube: click
copper, brass, nickelsilver, lapis lazuli, black marble,
garnet and black jasper splinters, Swarovsky crystals
I made a necklace/amulet , remembering the Gypsies I met in my life.
The black stone in the middle is marble. It`s a symbol for the Saint of the catholic gypsies, Black Sara. She came to south France (Saint Marie de la mer) together with Mary of Magdalen from Israel after the crucifixion and is the Saint of the beggars, is said.
The blue stones are lapis lazuli and symbolize the light blue sky, while the green Swarovsky crystals are symbols of the grass. These two colors appear together in the flag of the Roma people and stand for their traveling existence. The flag shows a car wheel, and the brooch is held in this design also.
I choose copper, because the Gypsy tinkerers of the past repaired copper vessels.
The division into four parts in the center of the brooch symbolizes the migration of the Gypsies to north, south, east and west.
The red garnet splinters around the center stand for the passionate music of the Gypsies, the black jasper splinters for the melancholic aspects of it and of the Gypsy life in general.
The 5 axis symmetry is an abstraction of the "hand of Fatima/Mariam", which is meant to protect against the evil eye and for blessing and bringing luck.

stones and other materials
- I prefer natural stones. The little imperfections of natural stones make a piece of jewelry more special. Synthetic stones are often too perfect and appear somehow "cold" because of this. However, synthetic spinels with their translucent deep blue color and the brilliant Swarovsky crystals are exceptions to this preference, as well as synthetic ruby because of its price.
